Der Gebietsansatz als Chance für die Landschaftsqualität?
Mit der zweiten Revision des Raumplanungsgesetzes (RPG 2) erhält die Raumplanung ab 2026 ein neues Instrument: den Gebietsansatz. Er soll den Kantonen ermöglichen, Gebiete ausserhalb der Bauzonen räumlich gesamthaft weiterzuentwickeln. Bei der Umsetzung bleiben viele offene Fragen. Diese sowie die Chancen und Risiken für die Landschaftsqualität wurden mit drei Inputreferaten und einer Gesprächsrunde diskutiert.

Research project FLOW-BIOS
Nature-based solutions play a vital role in addressing the rising risk of flooding across the Alps, but this requires land that is often privately owned. That is why the FLOW-BIOS project, in collaboration with Austrian and Swiss UNESCO biosphere reserves, is investigating how nature-based solutions can be successfully implemented on private land.

Research project REGO
Focusing on Austria and Switzerland, the project REGO investigates how existing governance models in UNESCO Biosphere Reserves are structured and how they can be redesigned to enable Biosphere Reserves to fulfill their diverse responsibilities in nature conservation and human development in the best possible way.

The next “SNP+ Research Symposium” will take place on 17-18 June 2027 in Zernez, Switzerland. Save The Date to join the insights and discussions on the topic of „Biodiversity Beyond Borders“! The conference is organized by the Research Commission, the Swiss National Park, the UNESCO Biosfera Engiadina Val Müstair and the Regional Nature Park Biosfera Val Müstair, in collaboration with the Interreg project MAP-Rezia.

Swiss glaciers have exhausted their snow reserves
From 29 June onwards, Switzerland’s glaciers will have exhausted their snow reserves. Every litre of meltwater now causes them to lose mass – this is Glacier Loss Day. Between the extreme years of 2003 and 2022 alone, 200 square kilometres of ice – an area almost as large as the canton of Zug – have disappeared. This is reflected in the volume of meltwater, as analyses show: although ice loss was more severe in the summer of 2022 than in 2003, less water flowed off the glaciers.

Was können Dozierende den Studierenden mit auf den Weg geben? Welche Unterrichtsformate helfen? Auf diese Fragen suchten Landschaftsdozierende bei ihrem Austausch am 23. März 2026 Antworten.

Mountain Commons at SGM 2026 – Call for Abstracts
Mountain regions are facing many challenges related to their environmental and sociopolitical contexts – from reduced agricultural production to natural hazards or difficulty of access. Collective action and commons are ways to cope with these challenges. The Interdisciplinary Centre for Mountain Research (CIRM), the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI) and the Forum Landscape, Alps, Parks (FoLAP) are organising a session on this topic at the 24th Swiss Geoscience Meeting (SGM) on 20 and 21 November 2026 in Fribourg. They invite scientists from geosciences and other disciplines to an interdisciplinary exchange around the mountain commons and their multiple characteristics and management challenges in the 21st century.
