  • Workplace: University of Lausanne, Interdisciplinary Centre for Mountain Research, UNIL-Sion Campus, Bramois, Switzerland

Your responsibilities

The successful candidate will work on the BlueMount project, which aims to develop a platform for the monitoring of mountain social-ecological systems on a regional scale. By mountain social-ecological systems we mean any system at the interface between nature and society in mountain regions.

The person recruited will be responsible for (1) developing the conceptual framework of the monitoring programme, integrating environmental and societal monitoring in a balanced way; (2) implementing a prototype for the social-ecological monitoring of the CIRM mountain study region based on multivariate indicators; and (3) publishing the results in scientific journals. The research will be carried out in close collaboration with the BlueMount project team (resp. Christophe Randin and Davnah Urbach) and the project steering committee (headed by Iago Otero). The research will be supervised by Prof. Emmanuel Reynard (CIRM Director) and Dr Christophe Randin (Blue Mount coordinator).

The candidate will devote 80% of his/her time to his/her personal research within the framework of the BlueMount project and 10% to interdisciplinary activities of CIRM (seminars, workshops, exchanges with other researchers, etc.).

Your qualifications

The successful candidate should have a PhD in interdisciplinary environmental sciences, or a PhD in social sciences or natural sciences, with expertise in the social-ecological analysis of mountain environments. A good knowledge of Swiss environmental public policies and proven skills in geomatic approaches (e.g. database management, GIS, remote sensing), environmental or societal monitoring, or integrated (social-ecological) monitoring approaches are expected.

Language skills in French and English are expected.

What the position offers you

CIRM offers a stimulating environment and a culture conducive to the development of a research career. CIRM members are enrolled in international research networks and post-doc researchers are encouraged and supported to participate in international conferences.
